The Old Biscuit Mill
‘Old space , new ideas’: The Old Biscuit Mill is really a down to earth place for artists, ceramicists, funky décor shops, photographers, art galleries, glass-blowers, cool cat clothes manufacturers, picture framers, publishers, artiste’s, designers, stilt walkers, web developers, magicians, students, writers and even human statues, all of whom complement each other, creating an exciting and entertaining shopping experience.
Exposed brickwork and steel pylons recall the building’s industrial origins, while the rich, custom-mixed burnt-sienna paintwork conjures up the decadent confections once made here with its white-icing trimming. It’s that sense of community that makes a visit to the Mill so special. As you wander around the complex, past the waterwheel and the traditional-style hanging signs marking the stores, you may feel as if you’ve stumbled upon high street in an old village – an impression that is strengthened on Saturdays, when the Neighbourhoods Market comes to town with an array of fresh produce.
The eclectic buildings and variety of spaces at the Old Biscuit Mill make it the ideal venue for events. In the past year it’s played host to the 5FM New Year’s Eve party, TRL Radio on Tour, and Sanlam Fashion Week as well as countless other photography exhibitions, product launches and private parties.
